Fishing at Fort William Estate

The Fishery

Season opens 1st February - 30th September.

The catch limit is 1 fish only per rod up to the 12th May and thereafter catch & release. After the 12th May it's a 3 fish/rod/day limit and 1 fish/rod/day in September.  One beat is fly only below a certain height. Season catch limit is 10 salmon in one year per rod. Rod licences, tags and beat maps etc are available from Paul Whelan (Fishery Manager). Fort William Fishery is 1.5 miles in length with an added 2 miles of fishing down to Lismore, giving us a total of 3.5 miles of double bank fishing, split into 5 beats.

Golf StreamBeats are booked on a 3 rod basis, this means that 3+ rod bookings will have preference. We do not like to over crowd our beats, so if 3 rods are taken on a stretch then no further rods will be added. However if a large group wishes to fish together, then they may do so and will be charged per rod. Single rod bookings will be accepted, however they cannot be confirmed until 2 weeks prior to the dates in question. Beats are rotated on a daily basis.

We are 3 miles from tidal water and situated near the town of Lismore. There is vehicle access on certain areas of the fishery and there are huts on all beats except Glenmore. There is an excellent smokery nearby at Curraglass. We have a "Rod Room", where rods, waders, tackle etc, can be stored and also contains a freezer facility.

Ghillies

Should you require a personal ghillie, we have a very good team here at Fort William and we recommend that you book in advance to ensure availability.
Ghillies cost from 80 euro/day up to 110 euro/day depending on number of rods and particular ghillies (as some are qualified fly casting instructors).

Fly casting tuition can be organised with a qualified instructor, if booked in advance.
Their fees must be settled directly.

Corporate Entertaining

We have excellent experience with corporate groups and, given notice, can accommodate them.

Fort William Syndicate

Regretfully, all places on the syndicate have now been filled this year.

River Enhancement Project

In 2003 we completed our largest river enhancement project to date. Using over 1500 tons of stone, the project took 8 weeks to complete. The work included the construction of croys, deflectors, rock armouring, the placing of rocks as "salmon lies", a new fishing hut, improved fishable access and the deepening of certain stretches. Fort William is very keen to continue future river enhancement projects on our beats.
